Hotel Vrajraj Palace, Best Budget Hotel in Udaipur

If you’ve read hotel websites before, you know the drill. So let’s just say it plainly: Hotel Vrajraj Palace is the best budget hotel in Udaipur. Not a “budget hotel with a leisure feel”. Not an “affordable slice of royalty”. A budget hotel, clean rooms, a comfortable bed, hot water that actually stays hot, and a bill that doesn’t make you wince when you check out. Every property calls itself luxurious, royal, premium, five-star-this, or palace that — even the ones charging ₹1,500 a night. After a while the word stops meaning anything.

That’s it. That’s the pitch. Here’s what that actually looks like in practice.

What does “budget” mean here?

We’re in Hiran Magri, Sector 4 — a residential, well-connected part of Udaipur rather than the tourist-priced lanes right around the lakes. That location choice is deliberate. It’s roughly a 10–15 minute drive to City Palace, Lake Pichola, and Fateh Sagar Lake, close enough that you’re not losing your day to traffic, but far enough from the lakeside markup that our room rates stay reasonable.

Rooms are simple: standard, deluxe, family, and couple options; air conditioning; free Wi-Fi, a TV, and a private bathroom. Nobody’s pretending these are palatial suites. They’re clean, they’re quiet, and the beds are genuinely comfortable — which, if you’ve ever stayed somewhere “budget” with a mattress that felt like a folded blanket, you’ll know is not something to take for granted.

The food situation, honestly

We run our own multi-cuisine restaurant on-site, including a rooftop section. Is it a Michelin-starred experience? No. Is it convenient after a full day of walking around Udaipur when the last thing you want to do is go hunt for a restaurant? Yes, absolutely. Rajasthani thalis, North Indian standards, and a few Chinese and continental dishes if you’re missing home food — nothing fancy, just food that’s actually good and doesn’t require another cab ride to get to.

Who actually stays here?

Realistically, three kinds of guests:

  • Families on a budget trip — the family rooms have enough space that you’re not stacked on top of each other, and there’s a small kids’ play area so you’re not entertaining a bored 7-year-old in a hotel room all evening.
  • Groups — student trips, college batches, wedding parties — we’ve got a dormitory setup (up to 25 people) and can put together 2–3 night packages that include pickup, local sightseeing, and day trips to Nathdwara, Kumbhalgarh, or Chittorgarh. If you’re a travel agent or coordinating a group, this is genuinely where we’re most useful — ask for the B2B rates directly rather than going through a booking site’s markup.
  • Solo or couple travellers who’d rather spend their money on experiences than on the room — Udaipur has enough boat rides, forts, and old-city wandering to fill a budget on its own. We’d rather you have that money for a sunset boat ride on Pichola than for a room you’re only sleeping in.

What we’re not going to pretend

We’re not going to tell you we have a five-star spa, or that every room has a lake view, or that this is where you propose to someone (though honestly, people have – our rooftop’s not bad for that either). We’re a comfortable, clean, reasonably priced place to sleep and eat while you go do the actual reason you came to Udaipur, which is Udaipur itself.

If that’s what you’re looking for — a straightforward budget stay in a well-located, real neighbourhood of the city, not a resort brochure — we think we do that pretty well. Give us a call, ask us directly about current rates, and we’ll tell you honestly what we’ve got available rather than upselling you into a room you don’t need.
